The hit Xbox Live Arcade mini-game is finally coming to mobile phones to entertain you when you're on the go. Bizarre Creations has released these screens of the upcoming Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved and they look as fun as ever.

If you don't have a clue what this one's all about, then listen up. The game lives up to the tradition set by such classics like Galaga and Galaxian where you pilot a ship and try to survive as long as you can, scoring as many points as possible along the way. Basically, it's almost a game where beating top performances set by yourself or other players is the highest reward.

Geometry Wars was once just a small game in Project Gotham racing's garage, but when it caught on because of its addictive elements, the developers decided to create spin-off after spin-off and it's working wonders fort both fans and the creators. We'll update you on more news as they come.

Traxion still a go - Image 1

It should be remembered that LucasArts sealed the fate of rhythm-based video game title Traxion earlier this year when it announced that it will no longer be publishing the title. It felt like the decision was not appreciated by Kuju Entertainment (who's now changed their name to Zoe Mode) as the developer severed its publishing agreement with LucasArts.

Today, Zoe Mode head Ed Daly mentioned that they are still considering pushing through with the project and that they may even market Traxion as a PSP and an iPod game. Daly commented,

The terms of the deal with LucasArts are still confidential, so I can't comment on the details - but we have retained the rights to the IP and we're now looking at what we can do with the IP and the technology and what it's potential is. There's a long history of games that have been canned and came back as great proposition.

However, Ed Daly also shared that their studio is busy at the moment with other projects such as SingStar and EyeToy titles for Sony as well as unannounced next-gen titles. He added that when they find the time and the manpower, Traxion might even go next-gen,

When the teams free up the idea might find place on next-gen formats, or mobile phones or even iPods - there's plenty of use for the tech, but we just need to figure out what that will be and then build the resource so we can take the next step with it.

On a related matter, Ed Daly also revealed that Zoe Mode will be coming up with another music-puzzle game that will be released on the PlayStation Network (PSN) and/or Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA). The concept is different in such a way that the game will be controlling the music instead of the other way around. He shared then,

It's interesting as there is no longer that one straightforward route to market and we're able to think that maybe we are better off investing a bit more in the self-publishing route. There are only a finite number of companies or publishers willing to invest so certain games we aren't always going to chase a traditional publishing deal for them.

GWGeometry Wars: Retro Evolved is one of the best-selling games on Xbox Live Arcade. It was a good move on the part of Sony BMG to bring it to a platform which can easily be accessed by people on the go. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved Mobile maintains the flashy graphics as well as the frantic gameplay that players came to enjoy since the Xbox Live version debuted in 2005.

Speaking of gameplay, Bizarre Creations added extra challenge modes to test your keypad-mashing skills.

Evolved Mobile Mode. Identical with the XBLA version, foes appear as your multiplier increases. The gameplay becomes hectic when even more enemies spawn left and right. If you're lucky enough to get a high score, it will be posted on a network leader board and local ranking table.

Immortal Mode. This is the mode for the first-time GW players. Think of it as a practice mode where you are invincible. There are no scores and multipliers, but you can still view bomb and life meters.

Challenge Modes. This is similar to the Evolved Mobile mode, but there's a pre-defined objective to achieve. The objectives under Challenge modes are: Untouchable, Survivor, Monster, Trenches, Speed, Multiplier, Feline, and Bomber. Among these, the most challenging would be Untouchable, wherein you make the most of your "one" life with no weapons or bombs. It's basically testing how long you can hold out just by dodging.

New screenshots await after the jump.

A collaborative effort by Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Hardcore 3D Wireless, as well as Bizarre Creations, the mobile version is set to meet fans' expectations and much more. Says Martyn Chudley, Managing Director of Bizarre Creations, "The mobile version of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved has been really well received here at Bizarre...It's amazing to see how much detail has been recreated on a mobile phone, with the controls feeling great, and still keeping the game faithful to the original."
