THQ Wireless has announced that it is launching a technology that can break new ground in how developers make games for mobile platforms, especially in the aspect of controls where handsets need a lot of help. The Technology is called Cell Weaver and it was developed by mobile phone software firm Universomo. THQ will demonstrate the capabilities of the engine in upcoming games for the platform starting this year. "Universomo’s Cell Weaver game technology is a versatile application for game design enabling the most sophisticated game design solutions," says THQ Wireless President Adam Comiskey. "Cell Weaver will provide the mobile game player with fast, simplistic functionality for lightning speed, fun gameplay," he adds. THQ Wireless claims that the engine is "perfect for combat games from battles and duels to complex martial arts moves where the player has to defend and strike back by doing counter moves." "Other gameplay uses include a hero’s superpowers or in role-playing games when casting spells. Cell Weaver can also be applied to music, dance or rhythm based games," adds the company in a written release. |

Spartans! 300: March to Glory is coming to mobile phones! While we love the movie and the graphic novel, we keep wondering why the game is only being made for handhelds. It was a PSP exclusive, and now, it's coming to mobile phones. But we're not complaining. Both versions look great! The mobile version of 300: March to Glory is developed by Universomo, and published by Warner Bros. Some people actually (gasp!) think that the mobile game is better than the PSP version. The mobile game comes in single and cooperative story modes, and multiple challenges. 300: The Mobile Game plays like a casual arcade game, but features hundreds of units on screen, and a landscape that changes once the bodies pile up. You can even unlock cheat codes for the PSP game with the mobile game. We think this is reason enough to get 300 for the mobile phone. It's going to be bloody, it's going to involve a lot of fighting, and other than that, it involves strategy, history, a chance to relive the ancient battle of Thermopylae right in your mobile phone. Just check out Universomo's site (link below) for more details on obtaining the mobile game. |

News have just reached our ears that Sega of America has just inked a deal with European mobile game developer Universomo to bring games off some of their well-known franchises to mobile handsets. It seems that Sega really is going full throttle in their campaign to move into the mobile industry as the European branch of the said company has also tied up with Rockpool Games to do exactly the same thing -- port Sega-branded games to mobile phones. Universomo will be tasked with designing and developing the games and it looks like they already have two Sega games in development, both of which are all prepped for a Spring release this year. Glenn Wissner, Senior Producer at Sega of America, says, Universomo really understands Sega product and have been excellent in keeping to original designs while also adding their own spin and taking our well known brands to a new level of quality. They meet their objectives and often exceed our expectation in the areas of game design, playability and art direction. I look forward to working with Universomo on future games. Now, as to whether we'll be seeing more on the speedy blue guy (y'know who we're talking about) on our mobiles, we have yet to find out. Stay tuned for more. |

Just today we have received news that Juiced: Eliminator for the PSP has been shipped to retail stores worldwide. It delivers an authentic street racing experience with new cars, tracks, characters and game mode including wireless multiplayer modes such as crew races, pink slip events and the new Eliminator lap knockout mode. But if that isn't enough, THQ Wireless is launching the same game on mobile phones across Europe this week, with a little help from award-winning game developers Universomo.
You pretty much have the same objective as that for the PSP - make other drivers eat your dust. If you emerge victorious in competitions around Angel City you can not only improve your reputation but also your finances, allowing you to customize your ride as far as your finances will go. |
