First announced way back in August last year, a lot of mobile users were excited to learn that Lego Star Wars II (PC, Xbox360, DS) will be heading to their trusty cellphones as well. With the recent trend of console games heading to mobile phones as well (did you know that Tomb Raider: Legend and Project Gotham Racing is available for mobiles too?), we weren't surprised when Konami announced their mobile download service. And with a really successful title like Lego Star Wars II, THQ Wireless definitely cannot go wrong in backing up this mobile game. The game was made available for download in UK last month and now, it's available in NA as well. Featuring 18 levels, four missions, music from the original Star Wars movie, and your well-loved characters from the original series, Lego Star Wars II is sure to rake in mucho dinero for THQ Wireless. And to give you guys a preview of how the mobile version will look like on your cellphones, here's a fresh batch of screens for that much needed quick-see. Enjoy! |

Bricks and gaming are two words that don't usually mix. After all, "brick" is the term used for consoles that have just upped and died after one funky homebrew too many. But for this announcement, we're considering more bricks for gamers a good thing, as we tell you guys that Lego Star Wars II has gone mobile, and is ready for downloading. The game puts you in behind the controls of your favorite Star Wars characters like Luke Skywalker, as you battle it out with Imperial Stormtroopers and droids using your trusty light-sabre. And if sword-swinging isn't your thing, there's always the force abilities you can master in-game, which allow you to use Lego objects as weapons. The game currently has 18 levels and 4 mission, with music coming in from the original Star Wars movie. Unfortunately, this offer's limited to UK subscribers, who can get a copy of the game by texting LSW 2 to 88188. Or, if you'd prefer a sampler before getting the whole thing, click on the read link. |

Most of us wouldn't have expected Lego Star Wars to be met by so much critical acclaim when it was first released. Now, as the game's getting a original trilogy-based sequel on home consoles and the PC, the franchise is about to hit mobile phones as well. Putting it's focus on the events of Episode III again, where Obi-Wan and Anakin attempt to rescue chancellor Palpatine, the cellphone version is an action adventure in a top-down perspective. Players take up the role of Skywalker, fighting their way through droid armies on the separatist's flagship. It seems it wasn't quite possible for the developers to retain the blocky Lego charm of the "big" games; with such a small resolution to work with, not every detail can fit in. Nonetheless, the graphics are quite cute and clean while still reminding players that they're playing a Star Wars game. Aside from the constant action, players will also be faced with a number of puzzles, most of which are obviously based on usage of the force. Other classic film inspirations include the ability to block laser fire with the lightsaber, sending it back at the enemy forces. Much like it's parent games, Lego Star Wars for mobiles is designed as a lightweight and fun experience. As such, it won't take most players more than two hours to beat. All in all, it seems to be a decent transition of a full-fledged console game to mobile phones and should be worth trying out. |

Thanks to the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund, SpaceWorks Entertainment Inc. can now give us what they call the first mobile game-slash-television series title that will be launched simultaneously.Ice Planet - a new sci-fi television series and mobile phone game enterprise that will star Michael Ironside - has been awarded by the Bell Fund a Production Grant. The story -- an episodic science fiction of Star Wars-proportion, spanning a five-year story arc -- caught the attention of the members of the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund. "SpaceWorks is a very successful production company working with an equally successful mobile game developer in Silverbirch. The mobile game component in particular is very exciting because of its ability to port to multiple devices and languages," shares Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund Executive Director Andra Sheffer. Because of the Bell Fund, we can expect a game of good quality. As SilverBirch CEO Kevin Birch said, "Having the Bell Fund finance nearly seventy five percent of our project costs further ensures that this game will be up to our expected standards of quality and innovation, with the greatest worldwide market penetration possible." SilverBirch and SpaceWorks will shortly begin the production of the Ice Planet game, the release of which will coincide with the broadcast of the first episode of the TV series later this year. |
