Now who doesn't remember the first Eduwise? Intel's "Classmate PC" may have been visually akin to that of a kid's educational computer you could get at Toys 'R Us, but inside that 7-incher was a capable beast. The Ministry of Information Industry of China has released cellular usage statistics for the first half of 2006. According to the report, 426 million Chinese people have and use cell phones. That number includes 32.94 million new users, which were recorded during the first half of the year.Because of the increasing cellular usage, the Chinese communications industry has registered a domestic income of 345.57 billion yuan (US$43 billion) -- an increase of 10.7% compared to last year's. A total of 85.67 billion yuan (US$10.7 billion) were were spent on investment of fixed assets of communications, 9.1% more than last year. China's communication industry also is forecast to register revenues over US$100 billion by 2007. While the rural territories of the country are still lagging behind the economic wonders of Shanghai and Beijing, the total number of users of modern communication and entertainment media has exploded in the last few years and is likely to continue to do so. |
