Some were led to believe that flash drives aren't as reliable as they would wish, as it might wear out long before they get their money's worth. But typically, this isn't the case, as Samsung explains. Find out why in the full article. |

Well if Samsung can combine a cellphone with an optical-zoom camera, why not a cellphone and a watch? Sounds like something from James Bond or Inspector Gadget, but that's the new gadget that Samsung has recently patented. The patent for a "wrist wearable type portable terminal" describes... well... a cellphone attached to a wristwatch. That's pretty much it. The device has two main parts: one at the top of the wrist and one at the bottom, the two connected by a wristband. The bottom part acts as the power supply and the top part is the cell phone itself, which can be detached from the watch. (What, you didn't think that you'll have to put the watch to your ear did you? Kinda awkward.) Still, considering the diminutive size it would be interesting to see how it would work and how well it would perform. With something that small, one has to worry about reception, not to mention volume, and how long the batteries would last. |

Since time immemorial, we've looked for ways to combine two or three devices - each with a unique purpose - into one easy-to-carry gadget, and it usually worked. The spoon and fork gave birth to the all-time favorite spork, and the gun and knife to the rifle bayonet. Camera and phone? Look no further than Samsung's latest technological wonder to be unveiled, the Samsung GH800.While certainly not as deadly as the aforementioned examples, the newly-unveiled Samsung G800 certainly can be just as every bit as handy, combining the memory-preserving handiness of a digital camera with the portable communicator aspect of a cellphone. Not to mention looks absolutely gorgeous as a gadget. And shiny, too. But besides looking like the handsome love child of the Apple iPhone and a state-of-the-art digital camera with a model number longer than that of Shakespearean epic Romeo and Juliet when transcribed into binary, the Samsung G800 also has a couple of very neat features that's sure to prove nifty in your day-to-day life. One of these features is 3x Optical Zoom, handy for getting a closer shot. Wait a tick, you interject, isn't the ability to zoom a required feature in these sort of gadgets? Yes, but the Samsung G800 camera is the only 5 megapixel camera phone to have optical zoom, which makes it a benchmark achievement. Add to that more nifty features that include face detection, xenon flash, wide dynamic range, the ability to take panoramic, macro and multi-shots, and you've got a sweet digital camera indeed. So the G800 is a great camera. Is it a great cellphone as well? Tying in with today's popular trend of video-blogging, the cellphone aspect of the G800 lets users edit their own self-made content on the go with powerful editing tools that allow easy copying, pasting, and cutting with a press of a button. Not only that, the G800's mobile-blogging feature allows users to share their own content quickly, easily, and reliably, all with the help of High Speed Downlink Packet Access support. Sounds like a great deal, eh? Hopefully, we won't have to wait for long for one to be available for purchase, as the Samsung G800 is set to hit European shores in November. GPS smartphones such as the BlackBerry 8820 have become popular with today's modern road warriors so it's no surprise that Samsung has announced their own GPS phone, the SGH-i550. Reports say the unit is tentatively scheduled for launch this November but specific release markets or prices have yet to be officially announced. On paper, the i550 looks like it will be a strong contender in the mobile smartphone market. The unit is a tri-band GSM phone with 3G capabilities via WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) and is equipped with the S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 (Symbian OS 9.2). The i550 also comes with a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera, HSDPA connectivity, a 3.5mm audiojack, a 1200 mAh battery which is said to be good for up to 24 hours of heavy use, and of course a built-in GPS receiver. The i550 looks to be a solid phone for workers and travelers. If the phone proves to be popular with the mobile phone community, then we'll undoubtedly be seeing more GPS enabled phones from Samsung. |
