Peter Ahnegard says maybe to a PlayStation Phone - Image 1Everyone's been asking if there ever will be a PSP Phone (or PSPhone to some). With all the rumors flying around, it's hard to pinpoint whether or not this product is really in the works.

Sony Ericsson's Peter Ahnegard was interviewed by Pocket Gamer at the Leipzig Games Convention. He spoke about quite a few things, but dropped the bomb with his comments on a possible PlayStation Phone. He started by discussing the assets they currently have and if it is feasible to actually release one:

I've been waiting for that one! To explain our position I need to look at the brands we've developed so far, in particular the Cyber-shot and Walkman phones.

When we looked at all the assets we could muster for music and imaging the services, downloads and overall proposition, we felt that we could create something that really lived up to the values of the brand and fill all the required boxes.

We're not launching a brand of handset simply because we can, but because we can lead up to the expectations of the consumer. Up until today we haven't felt we could launch a PlayStation phone because it wouldn't be recognized as a true continuation of that brand of products.

After that he gave a semi-confirmation of the product saying "it's obviously something that we're looking at but right now I can't really comment. Before Christmas, certainly... but exactly which Christmas I can't confirm!" This is big news for those who want the convenience of a mobile phone with their handheld gaming platform.

So does this mean we'll be seeing an announcement on this product soon? Hopefully, we will. If you're interested in reading the entire interview, don't hesitate to click on our Read Link. Keep checking back here for more updates on the PSPhone.

GC 2007: Finalists for Best of GC award named - Image 1

No matter what your game platform for this generation is, you've got a game lined up to be the most critically acclaimed at Leipzig. The Games Convention, very much like E3's Best of E3, will brand deserving games as the Best of GC 2007. But it won't be limited to just interactive entertainment: a Best of GC award will be pinned on a worthy hardware peripheral used in gaming.

Across 10 categories, there are at least two finalists queued up to win an award at the ceremony once it commences on August 24. And games from attending companies such as Take-Two Interactive, Konami Digital, Sony, Nintendo, SEGA, Namco Bandai, Eidos Interactive, Blizzard, and Crytek - among others - stand a chance to tout their creations as one of the best featured in the Leipzig Games Convention.

Exit Games - Image 1Fusion seems to be the name of the game as Exit Games Neutron joins the efforts to make cross-platform gaming available. Exit Games software largely focused on multiplaying and general interconnectivity on mobile phones.

Starting now though, they plan to make the transition to the next generation as they plan to make cross-platform casual gaming possible on the Wii, PS3, PC, and mobile phones.

Harald Behnke, CEO of Exit Games, says about the new tech:

Neutron continues to lead the way with innovations that enhance social gaming capabilities. Cross-platform connectivity enables our customers to build game communities that reach over three billion devices, making Neutron a much anticipated multiplayer solution for true mass market casual gaming.

Although we probably won't see this new tech hosting cross-platform multiplaying for games like Unreal Tournament III, we might expect some games like Chess, Checkers and maybe even the classic Arkanoid make their cross-platform debut. Exit Games will be featuring this tech at the Leipzig Games Convention from August 23-26 at booth I51.

Aiming to provide a more universal multiplayer gaming experience, Exit Games has developed a way of connecting multiple - not to mention very diverse - platforms using its new Flash Library technology.

Exit Games' Neutron multiplayer platform will enable players to get connected and play with each other using their mobile phone, browser, PC, Wii or even PS3. Sounds like a good deal? Yes indeed. "Cross-platform connectivity enables our customers to build game communities that reach over three billion devices, making Neutron a much anticipated multiplayer solution for true mass market casual gaming," said Harald Behnke, Exit Games' CEO.

Exit Games has an impressive track record on mobile gaming, including Penalty Cup 3D, where mobile users all over the world get connected and play World Cup over GPRS. The mobile games provider also hosts games in various Asian countries.

This cross-platform multiplayer function will be featured in the Leipzig Games Convention (Hall 1, Booth 151 in case you'll be able to drop by), and you can be sure that we'll cover it for you. Until then, stay tuned!
