click-to-call from GoogleTreat this tidbit as something that could come in handy for you in the near future. Misplacing cellphones - well, it happens to all of us, and to some people, it happens a lot. But the next time you misplace your phone and you're too embarrassed to ask a friend to give it a ring for you to follow its ringtone tracks, then Google Maps could just give you some help.

A site named lifehacker reported that when one of their readers lost his cellphone and to find it, he took advantage of Google Maps' new click-to-call feature. A crude idea, but the important thing here is it worked.

Just something to remember if you ever misplace your future iPhone. But with that price tag, you better keep the thingamajig close to you...always.

Google Phone mock-up | For illustration purposes onlyA revolution is underway as internet search giant Google has signed an agreement with mobile phone maker Samsung to pimp the latter's mobiles. Google products such as Google search, Google maps, Gmail, and other future Google products will be available so you can find whatever you want whilst on the move.

The combination of Google applications and Samsung's advanced mobile devices represents the two companies' dedication to offering a hassle-free mobile Internet experience for consumers worldwide. This may sound a bit salesman-esque but for mobile phone users out there, this is great news, especially with the integration of traffic updates on Google Maps.

If you find it a little hard to get to grips with new technology on mobiles then you'll be glad to hear that all Google applications on Samsung phones will be easily accessible with a click of a button. If you cannot get to a PC, this is the next best thing. Kitae Lee, President of Samsung's Telecommunication Network Business said:

We are very thrilled to introduce Samsung mobiles with one-click access to Google services. Our cooperation with Google exemplifies our commitment to leading the evolution from the fixed-Internet era to a mobile Internet era and ushering in a ubiquitous world where mobile enables our consumers to access information about anything, anywhere, anytime.

The internet-mobile revolution has begun.

drift

Technotrend-setting mobile phone operator Helio has a new phone with embedded GPS technology that makes being lost virtually impossible. Manufactured by Samsung, Drift provides the lost and disoriented Helio subscribers to access Google Maps and Buddy Beacon.

Buddy Beacon is the company's new service where its subscribers can switch on the GPS satellite technology to broadcast their location so friends can find them. One great thing about Buddy Beacon is that there's no need to call in or text directions which, if you're as bad as we are in giving directions, often makes things worse. The application shows a person's location to up to 25 people on their buddy list. The other great feature of Buddy Beacon is that it can be turned off. Something people with "secret lives" who want to disappear from their  friends' watchful eyes every now and then would appreciate.

Helio has also added the Google Maps application to the Drift phone. With Google Maps, subscribers can check real-time traffic, find directions, and use built-in search engine which finds contact details and directions for local listings.

The Drift is now available for US$ 225. The Buddy Beacon and GPS-enabled Google Maps are free for Helio's All-In Members.

googleAvoiding traffic can be tricky. You'd have to get hold of up-to-the-minute traffic reports so that you can drive down to an alternative route. The problem is that not all mobile service providers offer live traffic updates. And that's where Google comes into the picture.

The company has begun offering live traffic maps to cellphone users through Google Maps for Mobile. This allows users to choose a destination within Google Maps, and a route to that location is calculated. If you find maps confusing, there's really no need to worry. You just have to watch out for congested areas highlighted in red. Yellow and orange markings indicate slowdowns, and of course, green means smooth sailing.

Google Maps for Mobile offers comprehensive data on traffic conditions in more than 30 major US cities.
