People who are always doing business on the go should check out Verizon's new product, the UM150 wireless USB Modem for Verizon Wireless. Compatible with most computing devices - desktops, notebooks, tablets, etc. - this small, wireless modem lets you get connected to Verizon Wireless high-speed broadband. The UM150 wireless modem is optimized for Verizon Wireless to ensure higher performance compared to the usual DSL connections.

When used with Verizon Wireless' EV-DO network, the UM150 has average download speeds of 600 kbps and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps. The small wireless modem also features a retractable antenna as well as a Y-shaped extension cable for more flexibility.

The UM150 is priced at US$ 79.99 after a US$ 50 mail-in rebate, and comes with a two-year agreement with Verizon Wireless. It's certainly not free like Sony and T-Mobile's joint offer for the PSP, but still is a great deal.

Apple and AT&T are currently facing some hurdles related to the iPhone. A good portion of the consumers are trying to hack it while some aren't happy with the business and marketing moves the two are making.

Based on this info we just got, you can now add LG's Voyager as one of iPhone's future headaches. Much like the iPhone, the Voyager also sports a sleek touch screen interface. However, it has some distinct advantages over Apple's baby as it offers faster wireless web access and a two megapixel built-in camera.

For those who prefer to be traditional, the Voyager has another screen for its small computer keypad. Verizon Wireless is also going to be the exclusive carrier of the Voyager and Verizon's Chief Marketing Officer Mike Lanman had this to say, "we think it'll be the best phone this year. It will kill the iPhone."

Market analyst Avi Greengart, however, had different view, "people who want a high-end media phone and want to stay with Verizon will certainly give that one a hard look. I don't know that it would pull anybody away from an iPhone." Verizon and LG have yet to give word on the phone's pricing and release date.

If you've ever been sent by a company on a business trip in a city you've never been in, you know the feeling of wanting to have something or someone to guide you while moving around. Finding places to eat or chill out are not always in maps, hence the need for a more accurate alternative.

Enter the mobile phone. Once designed as a clunky version of a land phone with about two pounds of short-life batteries that you carry around, wireless communication handsets have come a long way. They've run alarm clock makers out of business, and this time, GPS companies could be next.

New mobile phones such as the Nokia N95 and leading wireless service providers like Verizon are teaming up to give subscribers on-screen maps in their handsets that allow the user to navigate almost effortlessly in a city they're new in. The technology behind this is the same as the one used by emergency workers to find callers who are in danger.

"Everything is time here," says Milton Williams who installs air-conditioning systems for a living. "Going from one job to the other. It helps me tremendously."

"I don't have to worry about where I'm going, about where things are. All I need is the address on the phone and it tells me how to get there verbally," says Robert Brissel, who spends a lot of time on the road in his career.

The service providers and handset makers aren't stopping there. Plans are already underway to make the technology useful in keeping track of children and people who may be at risk of getting lost.

When the iPhone hits next month, companies other than Apple might be able to ride on its popularity. According to reports from Reuters, executives at the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit said that it could also "draw consumer attention to other pricier, high-end handsets."

"One of the great advantages of iPhone for us is that it will heat up the music (phone) market," said Denny Strigl, chief operating officer at Verizon Communications Inc. "We're already seeing an interest in music on cell phones we didn't see just a quarter ago, and the gearing up the industry is doing in preparation for it."

Reuters notes that mobile phones that combine media management and playback features with the usual data and talk functions have been around for years, but their sales account for only a fraction of the market. One of the main reasons is the oftentimes high price tags of these phones.

At an estimated price of US$ 500 to US$ 600, the iPhone certainly fits this description, but consumers who want an all-in-one, multipurpose gadget may overlook that.

"People are not uncomfortable plopping down a couple of hundred bucks for a music player or an iPod (and) $100 for a voice phone or a PDA," said AT&T's group president for operations support, John Stankey. "If you think about what a customer invests to solve a problem...I might suggest that the price isn't as substantial as it might look."

  

Phone news posted some interesting images of a Motorola phone that's yet to hit the streets. It was originally named the V9m, but was later changed to V9c for a few iffy reasons. Speculations have risen on the possibility of this model actually being the anticipated LAZR or a RAZR 2 of sorts.

This phone will offer touch-screen controls and the popular BREW interface that pleased fans with its ease of use. The V9c will debut initially with Verizon Wireless but may become available with other mobile providers in the near future.

The change from "m" to "c" in the model's name is due to the fact that the mobile giant wants a clearer delineation between its multimedia phones and non-multimedia CDMA models.
