Yearning to hear some geek nostalgia blasting out of your iPod? Here's your chance. According to Next Generation, Konami and Sony BMG Music Entertainment have inked a deal that will bring Konami's library of music to major online music retailers such as iTunes and Rhapsody.

This will be the first time that original music from Konami titles will be available through digital distribution (we're guessing they mean legal distribution here). Some of the featured music included in the deal will come from popular video game franchises including Contra, Castlevania, and Silent Hill.

Next Generation also reports that Konami has said in a statement that the music will also be downloadable through major mobile carriers as well as the official Konami website. To celebrate, here's a vid of one of the best Contra theme covers ever by the insanely great Minibosses.

GWGeometry Wars: Retro Evolved is one of the best-selling games on Xbox Live Arcade. It was a good move on the part of Sony BMG to bring it to a platform which can easily be accessed by people on the go. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved Mobile maintains the flashy graphics as well as the frantic gameplay that players came to enjoy since the Xbox Live version debuted in 2005.

Speaking of gameplay, Bizarre Creations added extra challenge modes to test your keypad-mashing skills.

Evolved Mobile Mode. Identical with the XBLA version, foes appear as your multiplier increases. The gameplay becomes hectic when even more enemies spawn left and right. If you're lucky enough to get a high score, it will be posted on a network leader board and local ranking table.

Immortal Mode. This is the mode for the first-time GW players. Think of it as a practice mode where you are invincible. There are no scores and multipliers, but you can still view bomb and life meters.

Challenge Modes. This is similar to the Evolved Mobile mode, but there's a pre-defined objective to achieve. The objectives under Challenge modes are: Untouchable, Survivor, Monster, Trenches, Speed, Multiplier, Feline, and Bomber. Among these, the most challenging would be Untouchable, wherein you make the most of your "one" life with no weapons or bombs. It's basically testing how long you can hold out just by dodging.

New screenshots await after the jump.

When games play themselves

Squeenix (pardon me for using such a childish contraction) is best known for making games that have your character level up in some form or another. Be it in an Action-RPG setting in Kingdom Hearts II, or in a turn based strategy game like say Front Mission. That's why people's eyes rolled when they heard that Squeenix will be making a basketball game for Nintendo in the form of Mario Hoops, and understandably so.

Squeenix making a basketball game? Why? Can they? Will they somehow have Mario use gambits or something? Apparently, Mario Hoops was not that hot review-wise. A lot said it was good, but they're hesitant to attach the word "great" beside the game. Maybe it was too weird for some?

Speaking of weirdness, here's the latest WTF game creation by Squeenix. Gamasutra reports:

Square Enix and Sony BMG have announced "mobile dance game" Destiny's Child Groove due later this winter, featuring images of vocalists Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams as well as versions of the popular group's songs.

Beyonce plus Square equals what?! Apparently the game is supposed to be a back-and-forth dance battle in which users compete against dancing AI, and the game should feature a bevy of Destiny's Child hits.

Why Squeenix why!

But if you thought Mario Hoops and this latest one by Square-Enix weirds you out, just take a look at this list of non-RPG/non-Strategy games that Squeenix has made through the years. You tell us if they're any good. (Note that games released only in Japan have JP on them)

That long list, and the rest of the article after the Jump!

A collaborative effort by Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Hardcore 3D Wireless, as well as Bizarre Creations, the mobile version is set to meet fans' expectations and much more. Here, you'd still find foes in the form of the Weavers, the Repulsars, the Snakes, and powerful Gravity wells. Apart from this, there will also be loads of new features, like Challenge Modes.

Says Martyn Chudley, Managing Director of Bizarre Creations, "The mobile version of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved has been really well received here at Bizarre...It's amazing to see how much detail has been recreated on a mobile phone, with the controls feeling great, and still keeping the game faithful to the original."
