Winamp 5.5 Beta - Image 1In commemoration of its 10th anniversary, Winamp is introducing a new function that allows users to stream music from their PCs straight to their consoles. Matthew Callaway, product director of Winamp, explains that the new function was the direct result of having a user population that has a lot of gamers.

The new function involves a PC (not necessarily yours), a console, an internet connection and a whole bunch of music.

Users need only keep their PC on and keep their Winamp program running. A console can then log on to a specific website they use to log in to the PC and access the music (and video too!) files which they can stream and play.

The Xbox 360 will suffer a bit though. Because of the lack of a browser, it can only stream from a local PC. The Winamp team also plans to make the service available to cell phones with web browsers.

Callaway was once part of the Sega and Electronic Arts, and with the "anecdotal" discovery that many PC gamers use Winamp, GameDaily.biz says, "Naturally, the place to start building new Winamp functionality was by heading to the consoles."

They're all pretty much self-explanatory so we won't go into them all that much. The site is available in five different languages (English, German, Spanish, French, and Italian) so you probably won't have any trouble with the Flash on the site.

Anyway, watch out for more news and info about Sega Rally Revo (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Portable, Mobile and PC). Check out the official site by clicking on the link below.

N-Gage - Image 1In a major attempt to hook gamers besides those with N-Gage into its fold, Nokia is working on an unrevealed multi-format game that will run on both the PC and N-Gage. Temporarily named "Project White Rock", Nokia is working on integrating Sega Dreamcast's SNAP technology that enables game devices to work together with PCs into the game.

Nokia believes that such a move will innovate the concept of mobile gaming. While attempting to reach out to both mobile and PC gamers with a single game can be quite a risk, Nokia believes this will pay off if the company is able to pull off this project without a hitch.

"Project White Rock" developer RedLynx is giving only out a few gameplay details at this point, such as the game having over a thousand lines of spoken dialogue. However, Pocket Gamer was told that N-Gage's upcoming title will not be an RPG game.

Game producer Scott Foe will be at the helm of Nokia's ambitious project. Foe was the manager of Sega Dreamcast's online gaming titles, and he also oversaw the development of the first mobile MMOG, Pocket Kingdom: Own the World, making him an suitable choice for the position.

More updates as they come along, so stay tuned here at QJ!

SEGA - Image 1SEGA of America has recently announced that industry veteran Linda Chaplin was appointed Vice President of, SEGA mobile. Ms Chaplin is now responsible for functions in North, Central, and South America that were previously directed by SEGA Japan.

As for her history, it is notable that before joining SEGA, Linda Chaplin used to spearhead EA's mobile gaming initiative as senior director for strategic sales and worldwide licensing. During her time with EA, Chaplin negotiated licensing partnerships with Nokia, Iplay, and Jamdat.

Will this mean more mobile games from SEGA in the future? Those who dream of some form of Sonic or Virtua Fighter in their cellphones certainly hope so, especially since there are rumors of other gaming entities going mobile.

Sony, is that you on my mobile games? - Image 1After venturing to the handheld business with the PSP, it's no surprise that Sony would try to expand its market. According to what PlayStation Universe found in Mobile Entertainment magazine, SCEA stated that they want to be in the mobile gaming scene.

There's a God of War title coming to mobile phones, but Sony taking mobiles seriously is an entirely different matter. Word from the magazine also reveals that This is Football, The Getaway, and Primal could find their way to the mini-sized screens.

Apparently, there are plans for SingStar and EyeToy games too. While still unconfirmed, these could be pretty fun if ported well.

THQ Wireless executive Balbir Blugan will be spearheading Sony's attempt to get their games into mobiles. SCEA may also team up with Codemasters, Konami, and Sega to get the ball rolling before they establish their business on their own.

It's too early to decide, but mobile gaming doesn't exactly have a stellar history. Let's just hope Sony knows what they're doing.
