Logo of Nokia mobile phone company - Image 1If you're looking for a worthwhile alternative to a nice multimedia device that can share content across different devices, you might want to take a look at the Nokia N95 8GB as it now holds the title as the first phone ever to receive Digital Living Network Alliance certification. This allows the phone to wirelessly share content such as photos, videos and music through other devices in the home environment.

Aloha OS X for the Apple iPhone: module architecture leakage - Image 1

We're not one to pull the Apple fan's leg here, so we're just going to go out on a limb and say that we're kind of skeptical about this leakage. While the document itself actually highlights very interesting features of a possible phone, the name Apple Computer, Inc. hasn't been used for quite a while. Apple goes by Apple, Inc. now, as registered in NASDAQ (NASDAQ key: AAPL).

But in credibility of the document, there are a lot of interesting things that can be derived. First and foremost is the name Aloha OS X, which this document illustrates the architecture of. "Aloha" is a trademark by Apple in Hong Kong that has links to the iPhone that is under development. Let's get the other details from what we could derive from this so-called "confidential document" from "Apple Computer, Inc.":

  • WebKit Module, Apple80211: surf, chat, e-mail features seems to be covered here
  • Sync Services, Core Audio: music playing capabilities and music file syncing
  • Core Video, Codecs: video playing capabilities, probable video recording capabilities
  • GamesEmulator.app, OpenGL, GPU: if it's OpenGL 1.2, then games played on this puppy phone are "hawt"
  • Onyx: "OMG" doesn't even begin to cover this part; next-gen mobile and VoIP services soon to come
The most interesting points are the GPU and the integration of Synaptics' next-generation mobile phone concept, called Onyx (not OnyX, although we could be mistaken and "Onyx" is a typo). These both highlight that the "device" is being ambitiously developed for the new age of telecommunications and mobile lifestyles.

But whether these features will actually make it to the iPhone by June 11 remains a mystery until the next official announcement. You could say that the document could be representing the Apple's iPhone after all. Imagine if Sony gets their hands on this document...

spamKeeping up with the latest trends in mobile phone technology is tough enough. Add the multitude of pesky spam crawling into your smartphone inbox, and you've got one big techno headache. It's sad to see a "can-do-anything" mobile phone relegated to just a simple call-and-text ho-hum phone. All because it's too damn painful to wait for long mail downloads, only to get tons of spam.

Fortunately, there are solutions according to Rick Broid of Lifehacker fame. While spam-filter does wonders for the traditional email system, mobile phones don't get the same treatment. Hence, the need to get a server-based solution - a system that stops spam at the source. That way, only legitimate emails get through.

Of course, not everyone has the patience to go through the process. When laziness kicks in, even the best spam-filter solution gets little attention. So there's an alternative: share your email addresses only with family, friends, and colleagues. Sure, it's an old-fashioned strategy - but it works like magic.

If that's too simple for you, then you can just sync your phone with a spam-free desktop inbox. That way, you don't have to go and pull emails straight from the server that's plagued with spam.

Asus MyPal A639

Asus has yet again outsmarted themselves with the newly launched MyPal A639 GPS PDA, a handheld device that combines the features and utility of a satellite navigation device with the functions of your good old PDA.

As you can see from the picture, there's a swivel antenna that enables the device to be viewed in portrait or landscape format which means that your device will always be parallel to the sky. The options for connectivity are also quite impressive and extensive, having GPS, WLAN 802.11b and g, Bluetooth, and full sync capability with PCs.

As compared to the earlier released P525 (which has only 128MB of memory), the MyPal A639 comes with 1GB of flash memory, making it one of the few Windows Mobile 5.0 devices with the highest onboard storage capacity. If 1GB is not enough for you to store your maps and other data in, the SD expansion slot makes sure that you never run out of memory. This gadget also has a built-in microphone for the Voice Recorder, which you can use for your more important duties such as recording the tracks for your very own album aptly entitled "Songs in the Shower."

MyPal 639 is powered by an Intel Xscale 416MHz processor and the bundled software includes Windows Media Player Mobile, Pocket Outlook, Internet Explorer Mobile, Word Mobile, and Calendar.

mac50This program is billed on its website as being, "made by Mac users for Mac users." Considering the fact that at one time there was no easy method, other than emulation maybe, that would allow a Mac user to sync and transfer files between his machine and his Windows Mobile device, any Mac user who finds him or herself in the unfortunate situation of being stuck using a Windows Mobile portable device will find this piece of software indispensable.

Given high ratings by critics, The Missing Sync will make your Mac and Pocket PC play nice together. Along with the basic functions like transferring files between your Mac and your mobile, The Missing Sync lets you use a variety of different software from desktop productivity to mirrored tasks and events in iCal and Entourage. Whenever manufacturers (like Microsoft and Apple) neglect to provide solutions that bridge the final gap and fill a consumer want or need, someone else inevitably will do so, and usually rather quickly too.

Mark Space, the company that is selling The Missing Sync, is a company that specializes in Mac synchronization products. Specifically, Mark Space provides Mac synchronization software for the Sony PSP, Windows Mobile devices and Palm Operating System devices, along with a variety of small hip top smartphones as well.
