Rengoku - Image 1

Hudson Entertainment's futuristic adventure game Rengoku is back, bringing the frenetic action to mobile phones instead of its previous platform, the PSP. "We are extremely pleased to bring this franchise to mobile phones," said John Greiner, CEO of Hudson Entertainment. "Rengoku is a perfect fit for the mobile platform, since it features a healthy dose of action and adventure that cell phone gamers are sure to relish."

Based on the PSP game Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory, the Rengoku game for mobile phones arms players with fully upgradable abilities and equipment, which is also one of the main features of the previous PlayStation Portable installments. There will be seven levels, each seen through a three-dimensional perspective. The enemies will be programmed with unique AI and will have different attack patterns.

While both Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory and Rengoku II: The Stairway to H.E.A.V.E.N. were rather lackluster in presentation and gameplay, let's hope that the mobile phone version will be better. If not, at least it's a nice change from the usual games available for mobile phones.

Chew Man Fu - Image 1If the last update on the Virtual Console made you nostalgic and wax poetic, this next one will definitely turn you upside down. Hudson Entertainment is happy to announce that it will be bringing back the TurboGrafx original Chew Man Fu to VC and mobile phones.

If you are not familiar with the action/puzzle game developed by Hudson Soft and published by NEC for the TurboGrafx-16, the title of the game is also the name of the game's evil dude. Apparently, Mr. Chew Man Fu set a curse to rob the world of fried rice, egg rolls, and all other delicious food. The player's objective is to stop him by rolling 4 magic spheres onto tiles that match the spheres' color.

Take note that each color represents a unique property which is vital to solving the puzzle. Hudson Entertainment promised that the new version is faithful to the the original one. President John Greiner was quite happy and nostalgic about the whole thing:

Chew Man Fu represents an era of gameplay during which Hudson established itself as a creator of fun games that were easy to pick up and play. With such a fantastic catalog of games released over the last 30 years, Hudson is in a great position to bring back some of these classics to a whole new generation of gamers.

Hudson still has to announce the official European Virtual Console release date for this game. The game  was released on the Japanese Virtual Console last February 13. Sorry, we couldn't find anything about the North American release.

Lode Runner Deluxe - Image 1 Lode Runner Deluxe - Image 2

If you don't know the original Lode Runner, then you're either very young or a very sorry soul indeed. Lode Runner hails back from 1983, and now, Hudson Entertainment is bringing back all the mining-and-blasting of the game franchise onto your mobile phones. The CEO of the said game development company announced Lode Runner Deluxe with these reasons:

"For mobile, we wanted to come full circle, and a new version of the game that hearkened back to the original, but with all new graphics that truly push the boundaries of what's possible in mobile gaming today."

There's also going to be some new (and old) key features for this upcoming game:
  • All new art style with vibrant graphics and fluid animations - unlike any Lode Runner game in the past!
  • Classic Lode Runner gameplay - collect treasures on each map, as you outwit enemies, and escape!
  • The game is planned to launch with up to 50 levels initially with new levels available each month, eventually totaling over 100 levels!
More and more developers are remaking their games and "porting" them onto new platforms. It's great to hear news like these, of how people make sure that our childhoods stay alive and kicking. With new levels that we can download every month, Hudson is making sure that our childhood game will never die.

Hudson Soft The Orchard

Great news for old-school hip-hop fans! Hudson Entertainment, Hudson Soft's North American publishing arm, announced today that they've inked a publishing deal with The Orchard that aims to bring Delicious Vinyl's artist lineup to mobile phones.

The partnership will bring approximately 30 top tracks from the label to mobile phones as master ringtones. Tracks include such favorites as Tone-Loc's "Wild Thing," "Funky Cold Medina," Young MC's "Bust a Move," and The Pharcyde's "Runnin'," and "Passin' Me By," all of which broke the Billboard top 100.

If you're looking to score these old-school jams for your mobile, they're already available on major carriers throughout the US. You can also get them via the The Source mobile channel. As a side note, we're still looking for a ringtone of Sir Mix-A-Lot's original "Baby Got Back" (not the lame version that goes "Pick up the phone! Pick up the phone! 'Cause you don't wanna miss this call and I cannot lie!"), so here's hoping that someday, somewhere, someone's going to release that.
