We're not one to pull the Apple fan's leg here, so we're just going to go out on a limb and say that we're kind of skeptical about this leakage. While the document itself actually highlights very interesting features of a possible phone, the name Apple Computer, Inc. hasn't been used for quite a while. Apple goes by Apple, Inc. now, as registered in NASDAQ (NASDAQ key: AAPL).
But whether these features will actually make it to the iPhone by June 11 remains a mystery until the next official announcement. You could say that the document could be representing the Apple's iPhone after all. Imagine if Sony gets their hands on this document... |

How many times have we reported that IBM is the true winner of the console wars? Well, we have mentioned that twice - last November and December to be exact. Now, the company has recently taken the wraps off its newest creation - the world's fastest eDRAM.At the International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC), IBM revealed a pioneering on-chip memory technology that is blessed with the fastest access times ever recorded in an Embedded Dynamic Random Access Memory (eDRAM). This is the same type of memory used in the daughter-die of the Xbox 360's graphical processing unit (GPU). IBM also helped in creating the console's three-core Power PC CPU. The new eDRAM from IBM improves on-processor memory performance in one-third the space with one-fifth the standby power of your usual, garden-variety RAM. With that, this technology would improve microprocessor performance in multi-core designs. It would also speed up the graphics movement in gaming and other multi-media applications. It is expected that this new eDRAM would be an integral part of IBM's 45nm microprocessor and will become available in 2008. |

Allow us for a while to postpone your trip to fantasy land so that we can all get real. You are all aware of companies nVidia, AMD and its subsidiary ATI Technologies, right? Okay for the love of God, the three are major suppliers and manufacturers of GPU. As we all know, we can't get any leveling or questing done if not for these graphics processing units.Interestingly, nVidia and AMD are currently under fire with the Department of Justice slapping them with a barrage of anti-trust actions. In case you are wondering why, the two were recently accused of conspiracy to take control of the graphics market. Here is what the plaintiffs have to say: The allegation is the defendants and co-conspirators have engaged in a contract combination, trust or conspiracy, the effect of which was to raise the prices at which they sold graphics processing units and cards to artificially inflated levels. Executives of the company are also alleged to have had meetings and conversations to discuss pricing of graphics processing units and cards in the U.S. If these allegations are proven to be correct, then the two are guilty of creating a cartel. The latter are definitely a no-no in a country that is back-boned by democracy and free trade. This is rather weird because not so long ago, the two released a GPU compatible with DirectX 10, the only one in the world. |

In today's press release ATI representatives officially introduced the new flagship of the company's GPU line. The X1950 XTX sports a gigabyte of GDDR 4 memory (running at 2 GHz) and a redesigned cooling system designed to allow the unit to run quietly under load while maintaining a suitable temperature range. The X1950 XTX uses the PCI express standard and is based upon a 648MHz graphics chip. The X1950 family of GPUs will offer power that was previously unavailable by utilizing crossfire technology. To take advantage of this technology you must have a compatible motherboard. Crossfire technology allows users to install and use two X1950s on the same board instead of just one. For those who plan on becoming early adopters of Windows Vista (when it finally comes out), the X1950 is "ready to deliver the premium Windows Vista experience'4' with exceptional driver stability and performance." For games and Multimedia applications this card is designed to exceed your needs and expectations. "The Radeon X1950 gives gamers exactly what they want - super high frame rates and the best looking games possible, with image quality features that can't be found anywhere else" said Rick Bergman, senior vice president and general manager, PC Business, ATI Technologies Inc. "With the new Radeon X1950, ATI is introducing new technology in GDDR4, setting the performance benchmark even higher with the ultimate gaming solution available today."Marketing and hype aside, the X1950 XTX looks to be a solid entry from a reputable company and it's more than worth a second look, if you can afford it. The new card is expected to retail at around $450USD. Early impressions from lucky first adopters have been mostly positive, leading to the impression that ATI's new flagship will live up to it's title. |

Leave it to the folks at NVidia to make life better for notebook users everywhere. That's what will happen when they release their upcoming SLI Power GPU solution. As it stands, the new system will allow notebooks to autonomously switch back and forth between an integrated graphics solution, to save power when less graphics horsepower is needed, and a higher power discreet graphics processor, that kicks in when you are gaming or doing other graphically demanding tasks. The new SLI Power solution from NVidia will produce less heat overall than similar independent processors alone, while still maintaining the option to take advantage of higher performance when necessary. The system will also increase battery life, and contribute to a longer lasting system by only using parts when they are needed. While there are many laptops already in existence that have both a discreet GPU and an integrated one, the product coming from nVidia will be the only one that will allow you to switch between the two processing units automatically without rebooting or otherwise interrupting an ongoing task. Through a system of hardware logic and course clock gating, the system will be able to cut power to unused devices while switching seamlessly between the two processors. While getting this system to work seamlessly is not going to be an easy task for nVidia to complete (especially considering Windows-related driver and compatibility issues), the market is expecting a release that will coincide with the upcoming launch of Microsoft Vista (whenever that is). |
