Nokia 8800 lookalike - Image 1A few weeks back, we reported about a Nokia 8800 look-alike mystery phone that surfaced over at the Howard Forums. At that time, we can't say if this mystery phone is another version of the 8800 or a new phone. Now, going over Stuff, we found something that could be related to this mystery.

Stuff reports that a handset, with a weird resemblance to the Nokia 8800, was exposed by Carphone Warehouse. Nokia denies that this is their creation, but according to Stuff and Carphone Warehouse, this mystery Nokia 8800 "twin" is actually called the 8600 Luna.

This phone, according to Stuff sources, would be cheaper than the the 8800. It appears to be a slider, blessed with a two megapixel camera, mp3 player, a one GB internal memory and it would also run Series 40. Check out Carphone Warehouse's listing of the said contraption by clicking on the read link below.

iPhone - Image 1Back in January, we reported that Canadian communications giant, Rogers, will be the exclusive carrier of the Apple iPhone in Canada. This was based on the alleged emails that Rogers has been sending to their customers about the iPhone's availability, but at that time, no public statement from Rogers or Apple has been made.

Fast forward to today, Rogers has now made a public statement. Only problem is the announcement itself - apparently, a Rogers customer rep told CBC news that the company has not announced any plans to carry the iPhone in Canada. So who would distribute the iPhone in Canada?

Website iPhoneWorld.ca didn't buy this CBC news report so they decided to know what's up straight from the horse's mouth. They called Rogers Wireless regarding the report and another customer rep (named Amanda) told them that,

We (Rogers Wireless) are going to offer the iPhone in Canada… We’re just unsure of the exact release date.

So basically, it all boils down to who you'll believe more - the CBC news report or iPhoneWorld.ca's information. You be the judge folks!

Some might say that the advantage of the desktop over the laptop is that almost all the aspects of your desktop could be upgradeable. Well, Asus has that in mind, and that's probably the reason why they came up with a laptop that is user-upgradeable.

NotebookReview reports that over at the Asus labs, they were able to try out the Asus C90 desktop replacement style notebook. The C90 is one of the few customizable notebooks around and this baby will use the Intel Conroe processor platform. It would also allow customers to buy the barebones version of the C90 notebook and drop in the components that they want. But still, here are the C90's basic specs:
  •  Supports Intel Conroe desktop processor platform, 1.86GHz - 2.66 GHz (E6700)
  •  15.4" screen
  •  2.0 Megapixel camera built-in
  •  HDMI
  •  Bluetooth
  •  TV-Tuner integrated
  •  E-SATA
  •  8-in-1 media card reader
  •  802.11n
  •  Graphics: NVidia (???? -- we can't tell)
  •  Finger Print reader
  •  HD-DVD and Blu-Ray drive capable
  •  3 USB ports
  •  Piano gloss finish with inlaid pattern
Just what of C90's components are upgradeable? According to Asus - processor, LCD, hard drive, memory, graphics card, optical drive...yup, you name it, you could customize it. The C90 would be out by mid-May but no specific date and price tag has been revealed. Here are some of the images of the C90, feel free to click on our Read link to know more about the Asus C90.

iPhone knock-off - Image 1Mimicry may be the greatest form of flattery for some, but we doubt that Apple is flattered with this iPod styled mobile phone.  Engadget reports about this iPhone knock off that is currently being sold for roughly £75 (around $150). It looks nothing like the iPhone and to the misinformed consumer, this will look like a really sweet deal.

The iPhone knock-off comes with an iPod like white finish and a Mac OS X wallpaper. A quick visit to the mobile's media player will treat you to a strange Quicktime skin. Also take a good, hard look at the "Apple" logo of iPhone wannabe - yup it has an extra leaf. Buyer beware.

Lots of Apple products have been ripped off and sold for a cheaper price. There was this iPod Nano knock off found in China and there was also this cheap iPod Shuffle wannabe that surfaced months ago. Mimicry may be the greatest form of flattery, too bad it's illegal most of the time.

First off, we here at QJ would want to thank annony-mouse for the tip! With that said, let's jump right to the topic of this post. We know that the Nokia N93 has already been shipped, in fact the Gary Oldman short film made using the nifty Nokia phone has already been released. So why are we reporting about a YouTube vid about the N93 user interface?

Well, just in case you are searching for a cellphone or you just wanna see some of N93's features, then this video is for you. It's seven-minutes long and was posted by cal8887. He mentioned that he "tv-outed" his N93 to his laptop's USB TV tuner so that others could see the phone's features and capabilities.

Aside from that, if you're thinking of buying the N-Gage II come September, you should also take a look at this vid. Apparently, it also shows gameplay snippets of System Rush Demo, one of Nokia's next-gen N-gage games. So with that, click play and watch the vid.

Google phone - Image 1If this statement proves to be correct, then Google won't just be pimping cellphones, they'll be making them as well. Isabel Aguilera, Google's chief executive in Spain and Portugal confirmed this week that the company has been working on a mobile phone.

In an interview with Spanish news site Noticias.com, she revealed that the company is working on a lot of things and one of them is the rumored Google phone. She further explained that "some of our engineers' time is dedicated to the development of a mobile phone." Rumors about bigtime tech companies getting into the mobile phone business are a dime a dozen - first there was the iPhone, then the rumor about the Zune Phone, and now here comes the Google phone rumors.

But the Google honcho's statement appears to indicate that the Google phone is more of a concept than an actual product as she also mentioned that "70% of the time of the engineers are dedicated to develop the company's main products, 20% of the time to develop related products, and 10% of their time are centered in the product development that at some time could have to do with our business." Ergo, the Google phone could just be a side business of sorts.

But then again, we could be wrong.

IBM - Image 1How many times have we reported that IBM is the true winner of the console wars? Well, we have mentioned that twice - last November and December to be exact. Now, the company has recently taken the wraps off its newest creation - the world's fastest eDRAM.

At the International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC), IBM revealed a pioneering on-chip memory technology that is blessed with the fastest access times ever recorded in an Embedded Dynamic Random Access Memory (eDRAM). This is the same type of memory used in the daughter-die of the Xbox 360's graphical processing unit (GPU). IBM also helped in creating the console's three-core Power PC CPU.

The new eDRAM from IBM improves on-processor memory performance in one-third the space with one-fifth the standby power of your usual, garden-variety RAM. With that, this technology would improve microprocessor performance in multi-core designs. It would also speed up the graphics movement in gaming and other multi-media applications.

It is expected that this new eDRAM would be an integral part of IBM's 45nm microprocessor and will become available in 2008.

F700 - Image 1

Samsung has recently unveiled their newest, and possibly the strongest, addition to their cellular phone family - the Ultra Smart F700. A possible iPhone killer? Basing from its features, it looks like the South Korean company may just give Apple one hell of a competition.

The candybar phone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard is blessed with 7.2MBps HSDPA plus EDGE and a 2.78 inch touchscreen. As for memory and connectivity, it has microSD expansion, full HTML browsing, Tri-band GSM, and Bluetooth. The camera? Just a whopping 5 megapixels.

No info yet on on-board memory, availability, and price tags. But we'll surely see more of this sweet-looking contraption when it makes an appearance at 3GSM. For now, feel free to look at the pics.
