It may be true that is more conveniente for Apple to distribute the iPhone with several different providers. However, it is not because European market is more fragmented than that of the U.S.
I don't know who hired thos analysts, but the European market, and specially the mobile market, is very unified in the continent. Even more than in the U.S. While in the U.S. providers have to face changes in the laws of communication in some states or anothers, laws of communication and mobile network are the same for all Europe, being more easy for providers and companies to distribute their services.
Between other reasons, that is why European mobile phone market is much more advanced than North American one, that still lacks a lot of infrastructure for new technologies such as HSUPA, HSDPA, or even the UMTS.
C'mon, EDGE on the new iPhone? Is this a joke?
