Sony Vaio - Image 1According to a tidbit taken from Chinese broadsheet Economic Daily News, Sony is now planning to enter the ultra low-cost notebook market, reportedly tapping Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn for components that will be used for the rumored Sony ULPC. The paper reports:

Japan vendors were originally conservative about the low-cost notebook market, but with low-cost notebooks having successfully made a clear market separation from mainstream notebooks, these vendors have decided to enter the market in the fourth quarter of this year, added the paper.

While major electronics manufacturers (Sony, Fujitsu, etc) have made known their wariness towards the new ultra low-cost computer market, they finally decided to enter the ULPC market after determining that the new consumer taste for smaller, cheaper notebooks will not threaten their market share.
