Nokia N-gage - Image 1Nokia's Mark Ollila, the guy in charge of games for the N-Gage, said in an interview that the company is looking at cross-platform games and user-generated content. Nokia is aiming for games that can run on both PC and the mobile gaming device.

Project White Rock, the product of Nokia's collaboration with studio Redlynx, is supposed to be playable on both PC and N-gage, and is expected to deliver multiplayer game experience like in MMORPGs. It utilizes the SNAP technology to connect players as they travel in an immersive world with hundreds of lines of recorded dialogue.

Another game in the works is hoping to attract players into creating their own content. "For one of the titles we are working on we are looking at the possibility of letting players create a game and sharing that experience with others," Ollila said. He also mentioned that the idea is to build a community around the N-gage service.

Ollila continued, "one of the things we're emphasising with the N-Gage platform is the one SKU across various devices and the other thing that we're emphasising is building up community." Apparently, Nokia is taking a new approach to N-gage games development by focusing on the software. The company wants developers to feel comfortable when making games by offering one SKU to worry about for all N-series handsets.

"We're exploring the cross-platform side of things - your friend might not have a Nokia handset but you still want to play with them," Ollila added. We should be able to see this concept in action when the new N-gage service goes live come November 2 later this year.
