Nokia Executive VP Vanjoki: We're moving from Web 2.0 to Web NG - Image 1

Nokia Executive VP of Markets Anssi Vanjoki recently gave a keynote address at the on going Game Developers Conference about the convergence of media and gaming. As we all know, the company is trying to re-establish itself in the arena via the N-gage service.

Vanjoki began the speech with a history of the mobile gaming market but things really became interesting when he started talking about the future. According to the official, the world is beginning to move from Web 2.0 to "Web NG" as in next-generation.

The Nokia Executive VP defines Web NG as a contextual presence where we are extending our souls to be part of the online experience. He added that reality will further be meshed up with virtuality.

"Much more participation with content made as the game is being played by the people playing the game. A whole new world of creativity waiting for us. Web and mobile has become a tool to annotate everything we do via connectivity," added Vanjoki.

Going a bit into specifics, Anssi Vanjoki discussed that photos can be used as a form of user-generated content for already established games. The official explained:

This is a massive source of new creativity. Making games where the participant gets excited playing tasks someone else has developed but also developing and creating their own, and challenging others.

Vanjoki also added that mobile phones are a great way to share secrets and intimacy, something that will further attract females to play games. In the end, the official is very hopeful that Nokia will emerge as a new gaming hub for the market:

We have been looking at and participating in the games industry for many years. Now we are playing an important part with the launch of Ovi and its games functionality.

I think we can create a new business that is unstoppable by monopoly companies. It's all for the love of gaming.
