Mobile game sales to hit USD 3 billion in North America by 2012 - Image 1There's no doubt about the amount of games being ported to mobile phones. As a matter of fact, these games are slowly on the rise in terms of earnings. In a report by Juniper Research, they have predicted that mobile game revenues will reach more than US$ 3 billion by 2012.

Juniper Research was able to find out that currently 18 million Americans download or rent mobile games at least once a year. These numbers will increase sharply in the next five years because user interfaces are getting better, unlimited data packages are increasing, and free trial periods are being introduced into the industry.

In addition to these findings, Dr. Windsor Holden said that the "try before you buy" strategy makes customers more comfortable with gaming titles. Also, when the users try it out, they get a chance to familiarize themselves with the game, leading to much encouragement for the customers to seek out and buy more titles in the future.

These numbers are pretty high considering that mobile games are considered to be a minority compared to console games. If developments in mobile gaming turn out right, mobile games might actually be able to break barriers in the future.
