Nokia N-Gage - Image 1Even business titans and industry leaders make mistakes and take their lickings. That's a lesson that mobile handset giant Nokia learned with the initial run of its N-Gage mobile phone/ handheld game system hybrid. The unit didn't do as well as expected, but Nokia isn't giving up.

Network games product manager Scott Howard said that a more immersive community gaming experience may be the solution to  the slow reception that met the first generation of the N-Gage. He's thinking of something similar to Microsoft's Xbox Live.

Howard says that "smooth, easy and stable" connectivity with other users should encourage more people to use the product. If the cost of going online and minimizing download times can be addressed, Howard believes there's no reason for the platform not to succeed.

Howard says that communities are the lifeblood of the field where Nokia wants to play, and therefore their needs must be addressed. Nokia, for its part, expressed confidence that these issues can be addressed soon to cater to the demands of interested parties.
