N-Gage Nokia, pushing mobile video games - Image 1Well, you work with the tools you have, right? And if you're a developer making games for mobile phones, you have to work with what's available to you. A phone doesn't have to be limited to just press and play games. Apparently, developers for N-Gage will be taking advantage of this and will be developing new innovative games that make full use of the phone's functions such as the camera, and even your own address book. Details in the full article.

Blizzard talks World of Warcraft movie and WoW on mobile phones - Image 1 Remember earlier this month when a patent file by Blizzard was found? The patent described a virtual network telecommunications service called BattleChat for World of Warcraft. Looks like this might actually pull through, as hinted by Blizzard co-founder Frank Pearce during DICE 2008. He also talked about the upcoming World of Warcraft movie. Remember that nifty little gadget from last year, the external LCD projector that can display images from a mobile phone? Well, Texas Instruments took the idea one step further by creating a cellphone with the projector built right into the device: the Pico Projector.

The device is still in its early stages, and a prototype was demonstrated at a Pepcom event in New York. The actual projected image from the device looks like it still needs some improvement but it's already looking to be pretty nifty.

No more suffering small screens on your mobile phones, and judging from the demo in the video uploaded by Popular Science, it looks like it might make a good substitute for a portable media device as well.

Winamp 5.5 Beta - Image 1In commemoration of its 10th anniversary, Winamp is introducing a new function that allows users to stream music from their PCs straight to their consoles. Matthew Callaway, product director of Winamp, explains that the new function was the direct result of having a user population that has a lot of gamers.

The new function involves a PC (not necessarily yours), a console, an internet connection and a whole bunch of music.

Users need only keep their PC on and keep their Winamp program running. A console can then log on to a specific website they use to log in to the PC and access the music (and video too!) files which they can stream and play.

The Xbox 360 will suffer a bit though. Because of the lack of a browser, it can only stream from a local PC. The Winamp team also plans to make the service available to cell phones with web browsers.

Callaway was once part of the Sega and Electronic Arts, and with the "anecdotal" discovery that many PC gamers use Winamp, GameDaily.biz says, "Naturally, the place to start building new Winamp functionality was by heading to the consoles."

Motorola Z9 - Image 1Boy Genius Report has landed an exclusive prototype for the yet unreleased Motorola Z9. Although iPhone users will most likely stick to their guns, those of us who don't might want to take a gander at some place else.

Thin and sexy like the rest of its generation, the Z9 is now a slider, which seems to be a growing trend with Motorola phones. Sporting a nice big screen sort of like the RAZR2 series, the Z9 will have 3G support, a 2 megapixel camera with a built-in flash, Motorola Synergy Os, Live Video Share, and a slot for your microSD.

It's branded by AT&T who has a dedicated browser key on the phone. It also has AT&T firmware and will be compatible with the upcoming Motorola V9 handset. It's not an iPhone, but the Z9's a different kind of sexy.

Deeda Pi - the next-generation mobile contender up against Apple iPhone? - Image 1Now we were pretty skeptical ourselves when we first heard of this mobile phone making a ruckus online, but when we viewed the specs on this mini mobile gem, our noses bled. The features touted by this model of the Deeda next-gen mobile line is tantalizing enough to probably stake a claim to be an iPhone contender.

Now we know "Deeda" isn't as catchy a brand as "Apple," but then names have little to do with many things nowadays. It's like the computer hardware industry: new name, new game. But since the Deeda Pi phone (interestingly rhyming with "iPhone") caters to a wide range of users, it just might be safe to say that this smartphone, learning from the Wii, is handing itself over as a broad market item.

Of course, people have been skeptical as to how this phone could ever kill Steve Jobs' iconic i-products, but since Deeda hasn't featured any Hollywood actor in its publicity stunts, we'll give it a chance to strut its stuff. It's got stuff for mobile gamers: vibration touch feedback, a joystick accessory and a 3.6-inch true widescreen LCD.

It's got stuff for the mobile geek: custom OS, device customization through the OS, 2-megapixel camera, WiFi, UPnP, and expandable mass memory. And it's got stuff for the music lover on the go: 60 GB of memory, media player with high-quality audio speakers, two memory slots for SD and MMC cards, and a universal media extender.

While many like to be skeptical of such a device, we wouldn't want to bar such a beauty from entering the market. Crab mentality isn't our apple pie. Open-source makes for lots of possibilities for this hopeful device, and when Deeda does ship this out to the open, we'll be looking for it - as long as it doesn't evaporate into thin air, of course.

still unnamed media device from Thomson - pic from Engadget - Image 1French electronics company Thomson Multimedia, a French electronics manufacturer and media services provider">Thomson came up with two new gadgets that inventively explores the idea of mobile phone units being used largely for the multimedia functions of internet TV and radio, as well as VoIP.

The first one is Thomson's T2700, a Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) phone with some useful qualities. Aside from VoIP, the phone has a stereo loudspeaker function for internet radio. Listening to digital music is described to be a pleasure with this gadget, which boasts of HD sound with enhanced bass and treble over the usual phone audio quality.

Next gadget is still unnamed. Being compared with the wireless internet appliance Nokia N800, this still-nameless Thomson device boasts of an 800 x 480 touchscreen. It can also be used with a USB webcam for video conferencing. But perhaps its most satisfying feature is IPTV over WiFi, or the use of a digital tuner via USB.

There are still very little information available on these two, but we'll be sure to update you when we get more.

FiOS Fone from Verizon - Image 1Who doesn't want a phone with 50 Mbps-down and five Mbps-up bandwidth. A new gadget from Verizon will be able to give you just that. Called FiOS Fone, this new cell phone model will apparently be an all-in-one communications, news, media and entertainment hub device with 50 Mbps-down and five Mbps-up bandwidth available on the fiber-to-home service.

We can just imagine what sorts of stuff we could do with this gadget. Apart from the nice style, it has the potential to be a central information and planning hub in a wired home. Verizon is also making a move to challenge the cable companies who are already offering combined packages of TV, internet, and telephone.

There is not yet an announced release date nor price for the Fi OS Fone, but we bet those who are going to own unit are just the same as those who are lucky enough to obtain the FiOS service.
