If you're the type who sticks to microSD, here's a great device if you want some extra space for those devices that would require you to use Pro Duo cards: the PhotoFast CR-5300, a microSDHC to Pro Duo adapter. Note the HC there: that means the adapter will support microSDs that are up to 8 GB large. More details in the full article. |

Has this ever happened to you: after spending hours on road playing your favorite handheld RPG, you've finally reached the final dungeon containing the big, bad boss intent on ruling the world and the only way stopping him is you and your brave companions. And just when you're about to deal the final blow, your handheld's battery suddenly runs out. We would definitely call it a gamer's emergency, wouldn't you? Japanese accessories maker Thanko is npw coming out with a promise that their nifty accessory will solve such situations. Their new Charger Bracelet accessory basically stores a number of Lithium-ion cells on a bracelet and plugs directly into handhelds and even mobile phones. It already comes with adapter cables for the PSP, DS Lite, and specific mobile phone models available in Japan (au, DoCoMo, SoftBank). The Lithium-ion cells can be recharged separately through a USB port and lends around 15 to 22 hours of power for the Nintendo DS on its default setting and around three to four hours for the Sony PSP. While there have been local accessories with similar portable charging functions, Thanko's claiming their charger is more trendy. Seeing how the device is only available in Japan so far, anybody who's interested in playing your handhelds on the go without the risk of your battery dying out will have to find away to import this accessory. The Charger Bracelet is set at 4,980 yen or around US$ 43 and is available through Thanko's online store. |

It's a fact: battery life is one of the more pressing issues that laptop owners have to deal with every day. Some even go so far as to lug along an extra charged battery to avoid running out of juice on the go, while some have to make room in their busy schedules just to plug in their laptop somewhere and have it charged. Those practices may become the thing of the past, however, if reports of batteries that last for 30 years without charging are true. Apparently, the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory is now working on one such battery that runs on betavoltaic power. How does it work? The radioactive material that slowly decays inside the battery emits beta particles which turns into electricity. The decay process is very slow, slow enough for it to run about 30 years without charging. The batteries can be used for electronic devices such as laptops and mobile phones. Surprisingly, these batteries won't be as large and heavy as most other laptop batteries. Next Energy News supposes that these long-lasting batteries will be small and thin, and will not heat in the same way as conventional batteries do. Can we say goodbye now to burned laps (or laptop explosions)? This is certainly one very exciting gadget to look forward to. Will we see it in the near future? We sure do hope so. |

So there's the Wiimote which detects real-time motion, the PlayStation Eye which recognizes real-time images, and the PIP which recognizes... real life stress? This little doohickey from Vyro Games is a new game input device that measures the electro conductivity of your skin to measure your stress and uses the data to play a game.It might sound a little masochistic to play a game using stress, but the PIP - or Personal Input POD - was actually developed to help control it. It trains users to control their stress level by playing a game that can only be won by keeping their cool. The more you stress out, the more likely you lose. PIP has been developed to work with any device with Bluetooth, and that includes the PC, mobile phones and even compatible consoles. Games are currently in development for the device: so far there are only three games available for the gadget, but they all look pretty fun. One game has you racing a dinosaur who won't move if you stress out. Another game is like a mood ring: the device measures your stress and an image's weather will change depending on your stress levels. Last but not least (and maybe the most useful) is a lie detector. |
