AMD - Image 1TGDaily reports that AMD currently has plans to bring "Xbox quality graphics to handheld devices." AMD plans to do this by utilizing their next gen mobile graphics technologies.

While specific details have yet to be released, AMD is reportedly "working with content developers now in preparation for the arrival of phones." These should be made available to handset manufacturers through "discrete media processors as well as through IP licensing agreements with semiconductor suppliers."

A developers toolkit that includes OpenVG 1.0 and OpenGL ES 2.0 support has already been released. The toolkit will also incorporate the same Unified Shader Architecture found in the Xbox 360. There's still no word yet on which companies have already signed up, but keep checking back here on QJ for more updates.

 » Misleading

The title says xbox360 graphics then it says that AMD said "Xbox quality graphics to handheld devices." With unified shaders. So that automatically makes it a xbox360 handheld??? QJ your getting pathetic.

 » On that note...

The title says "xbox {360}" quality, but the article says "XBOX". as in the original xbox. Please be consistant.

Well you dont need to be a expert to know that it will happen someday.

Just becuse the tools are out dose not mean that developers will use it to sell a product.

It will be a really long time before you see some thing at best buy.

» 360 and Wii are realy attacking now

As long as they dont go down down the PSP road of porting crap PS2 gsames this will be a winner, the 360 is really showing itself as the best games console now, the Wii is also fighting for top spot but the PS3 it seems is being pushed as the best Film player but even there Normal DVD is laughing at it.

 » Yeah...

This is abit misleading. It's just saying that cell phone games will be using shaders within a year, but it won't be a portable 360.

Chances are they will look, at best, like first gen xbox games...but I can only imagine how ridiculously expensive that phone is....unless this is MS preparing to make a "PSP killer" or make a gaming zune....in which case it could be abit cheaper.

 » Give me a break...

Yeah f***in right. You guys don't honestly believe they have come that far in hardware minimization yet do you? The 360 has been out one year. Do you really think Microsoft would have made the 360 that big if they didn't have to? I can see it possible for xbox graphics but 360? Give me a f***in break...

 » no way

look, they might hit xbox graphx, but no way in hell will they make it to 360 because of the size that a handheld is limited to. even so your looking at a 400+ dollar system.
